Our approach to policy and campaigns
Our policy and campaigns work is based on our direct experience of providing legal advice and representation to asylum-seekers. We seek to influence public attitudes and policy responses, so that asylum-seekers receive fair and gender-sensitive treatment and the UK upholds the standards of international human rights law.
We do this by producing our own research reports and publicising our recommendations. We respond to policy consultations, we take part in campaigns and we lobby government ministers and officials. We also contribute to public debate through our work with Members of Parliament, the media and the public.
We are active members of relevant stakeholder groups convened by the Home Office, Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner and Legal Services Commission. We also work with academics, legal representatives, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and other organisations in the asylum and immigration sector and beyond.
This work keeps our concerns in the public eye and ensures that public policies reflect the needs of asylum-seekers. We are active supporters of a number of coalitions, including the Asylum Rights Campaign, London Refugee Voice, Still Human Still Here campaign, Women's National Commission, Women for Refugee Women and the End Violence Against Women Coalition. Through the Asylum Rights Campaign, we have also been involved in setting up an Independent Asylum Commission to comprehensively review the UK's asylum system.
